Lucero and Black label!

I started riding Lucero decks back with the 80's, the first deck to catch my eye was the Madrid Jester model. After eyeing the deck and dreaming of the rad-ness for a while, I had saved up my money and headed over to West Coast skateboards to pick it up.......the deck was sold. I had my $ there and was picking up my first pro deck, so it was decided I would get the Brand X weirdo model......With all the colored grip available, and my nievety, I had asked for the shop guy to recreate the base of that board in griptape...ha ha. He must have been stupid, or needed the funds because he agreed...how crazy is that! Anyone who had seen the base of that board how in the hell would you recreate this in grip, and how much grip was used, must have been crazy. He did a good job though....But it must have been a nightmare.

So I didn't get a Lucero until the next model came out, with the prison bars...great board and loved it...had a couple more the hippie one, the one with the cross, and a ton of Black Label decks. The Cross was sick and the first time I saw the future elephant logo of Black Label.

I always remember'd the photo of Lucero ripping around a horseshoe shaped rail at some contest...I looked for the photo for you...but could not find it...regardless that was the first time I saw a curved rail. Apparently he was the first to wax a curb....and slappy grinds they are just part of the trick selection....

Black Label skates, has been around for some time now, I am always impressed by the decks they make and would gladly skate one at anytime...obviously I have ridden the Grosso decks they made, and a few of the Luceros...what i like about Black Label, is they were one of the first companies to start making oldschool shapes again, until they did it, I was either stuck with longboards, or old decks I would find at the thrift store, if i was lucky. Scored a pre bonite Guerrero in the same way, garage sales were a great way to get oldschool shapes back then...and obviously the odd company making them......

Black Label Decks RULE! as you know....and Luceros mark in skateboarding is a diverse one. I have always liked the Never forget tributes, and classic shapes. and finally Black Label has always been able to organize a team that skates a little different from everyone else. The vids are great and I am always looking the the new one.

I am looking forward to ripping the new Eric Nash....Thanks John for all the great boards and sessions.
