The Vert comeback!

After skating for a long time you will witness the rise and fall of various parts of our sport.....like the rise and fall of small wheels & big pants, so went the way of vert riding back in the day.

This fluctuation of what is popular in skateboarding is directed by video and print. Hence the growth of Concrete Wave magazine and the obvious growth in longboarding (and other types of riding) as a reflection, nice work Mike! So as we look for these so called trends in the past it was clear to us that vert was going to die and street was going to dominate for a while. Like a changing of the guard, out with the old pros and in with the new pros.....this hit a lot of the 80's pros hard, with serious income drops, and basically at a standstill, some made the shift to street, and some didn't know what to do. This street wave dominated for about 15 years,  until the skate park growth started rounding things out....and making some killer all around rippers.....finally.

So we start seeing skateboarding coming full circle, we have the longboarders making sure the world knows skateboarders exist, with everyone riding to work and common place on any street. We have street skaters keeping our rails nice and polished, we have park and Bowl and vert cultivating a new generation of rippers....and so on and so on.........

Its nice to see skateboarding in this position, where all avenues are being explored with respect......and yes kid! SKATEBOARDING is SKATEBOARDING, regardless of what you ride and where you ride.

STILL MY FAVORITE VERT PART..YEARS LATER!

PHILLIPS!
