I started skating Seylynn in about 1984 ish, once we found this park it very quickly became the weekend trip. Seylynn became the motivating factor for me and my friends to wake up early on a Saturday and venture out of our local area (for the first time) by bus to this profound creation. Back then Skull skates was located at the park, pretty much at the top of the bowl, and provided the locals with the tools for the day.
It didn't take us long to realize that at the age of 10 you have one time to ride, that was anytime before the Jaks showed up. Once they showed up the session changed from a couple of kids back and forthing the one bank, to 4 or five person full speed snake lines from top to bottom. once in a awhile they would talk to us with the obligatory " hey kid get the fuck out" or the swindle product trade, always in their favor.
when the Expo 86 bowl contest happened, pros from all over the world showed up to compete in the vert at the expo sites and the bowl at Seylynn, it was amazing for us kids to see how the pros handled our park, including everyone from Blender, to Miller, to Hosoi and every pro in between.
Regardless the locals were always rooting for our local favorite Carlos Longo, who routinely killed anything he skated.
But as expected the Local Jaks had some issues with the pro contest hogging their bowl for the day, and it dident take long for them to start ripping down sponsor ad boards and argue with the officials.
Regardless it was always exciting to watch them ride and get drunk all afternoon.
You cant talk about Seylynn with out a shout out to Mad Carver.......RIP your style will never be forgotten.
